In mid-January the Exton Kings participated in the Congressional Cup in Washington, DC. For this month’s edition of the newsletter, the focus will be on that tournament.

10U A National

The Kings went 1-2-1 in the tournament. They lost to the Piedmont Predators twice by scores of 5-3 and 4-3. The lone win was a thrilling back and forth with the Pittsburgh Predators 6-4. The Kings had six separate scorers: Andrew Zajac, Evan Miller, Blake Daugherty, Landon Losito, Dominic Valerio, and Brayden Miller. They tied the Potomac Patriots 2-2 as Zajac and Valerio had the Kings goals. Daugherty led the Kings in scoring with 3G 2A. Other leaders include Zajac 4G, Valerio 3G, Miller 1G 1A.

10UB

The Kings went 1-3. Their lone win came against the Pittsburgh Predators 2-1. Wyatt Winnemore scored the first goal (Asst Eden), and Ryan Eden had the game winning power play goal for the Kings (Asst Winnemore).  Winnemore led the scoring for the Kings with 2G 4A. Eden had 2G, Olivia Waldron and Ryan Eden  had 1G 1A.

12U A

The Kings ended up tying three of their four games at the tournament going 0-1-3. They lost to Brick Hockey Club 5-0 but then tied the Jersey Shore Wildcats twice 5-5 and 6-6, and the Montclair Blues 3-3. The Kings spread the offense around at the tournament and Chase McLaughlin led the way with 2G 2A . Other leading scorers were Ethan Duffield 2G 1A, Tyler Neff 2G 1A, Owen Randazzo 1G 2A, and Jake Tomczak 2G.

12U A American

This was the only team that didn't play in the Congressional Cup Tournament, so we’ll recap their DVHL games. The Kings are 10-9  in 3rd place with 39 points. They had a solid month going 4-1. A 4-goal effort by Isaiah Thomas led the Kings to a 7-4 win over Snider Hockey.  Next was a thrilling 5-4 overtime win against the Delaware Jr. Blue Hens. Sean Hand had 2 goals, Owen Gofus and James Wright had 1, and Peter Stofflet scored the OT winner. Quinten Blackman had 24 saves in the win. The Kings lost a tough one 9-2 to the Hershey Jr. Bears but wasted no time getting back in the win column. The Kings defeated Genesis HC Schuster 3-1 on the back of Thomas’ hat trick and Blackman’s 30 saves. The Kings ended January with an 8-3 win over the Quakers. Thomas remained red hot with a 5 goal performance while Wright had 1G 4A, Gofus, and Nolan Schaeffer also had goals. The leading scorers are: Thomas 25G 4A, Stofflet 15G 12A, Hand 18G 8A, Gofus 8G 9A, and Wright 8G 6A.

12U AA

The Kings only picked up one win, but each game was a good battle. They lost 4-1 to the Greater New Haven Warriors, 3-1 to Saint James Hockey Club, and 3-2 to the Jersey Shore Wildcats. In the rematch with the Wildcats, the Kings came away with a 3-1 victory. Levi Narog, Lennox Negron, and Ryan Farrell all scored in the win, and Ali Gentile made 21 saves in net. Narog led the tournament with 3G, followed Menzel 1G 2A, Farrell 2G and Landon Gentile 2A.

14U AA

The Kings finished 2nd in their division going 2-2-1. Leonardo Nino, and Jackson Bogus led the Kings to a 2-0 win over Brick Hockey Club and Logan Fedon had the shutout. Tobin Engle, and Nick Tode scored against the Piedmont Predators and Nino scored the game winner for the 3-2 win. Ethan Landis had the win in net. The Kings lost 3-1 to Greater New Haven Warriors and tied the Fayette Ice Minors 2-2. The final game was a rematch against the Warriors. Nick Tode scored but the Kings fell in overtime 2-1. Overall, Bryce Hoisington led the way with 1G 2A, Tode 2G, Bogus 1G 1A, Brayden Martin 1G 1A, Mark Mannherz 2A.

14U A American

 The Kings went 1-2-1. They started the tournament with a 3-3 tie against Rooftop Selects. Joshua Franciscus, Collin Hoffman, and Charles Sposetti all scored for the Kings. Keegan Vaughn broke the tie in the 3rd period to lead the Kings to a 3-2 win against Ashburn Selects. Hoffman scored twice in that game for the Kings. The Kings dropped two games against Richmond Generals Selects 6-1 and 6-4. Hoffman led the scoring for the Kings with 4G 2A, followed by Vaughn 2G 2A, and Sposetti 3G.

 14U B

The Kings didn't pick up a win but ended the tournament on a high note. They were shutout by the Richmond Generals 3-0, and the Triad Storm 4-0. St. James HC defeated the Kings 7-1. In the rematch with the Storm the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Connor Hill and Dexter Demas scored for the Kings and Ryan Coccia made 11 saves.

16U A National

The Kings went 2-3 finishing in 2nd place in the division. They started off with an 8-0 win against DME Swamp Rabbits. Quinn Rafter, Matt Martin, and Mason Bean all scored 2 goals, while Evan Flack, and Matt Townsley also added goals. Lucas Fleuty earned the shutout with 17 saves. After a 4-2 loss to the Haverford Hawks, the Kings rebounded with another shutout win, this one against the New York City Cyclones. Rafter had another 2 goal game, and Jack Baran had 2 himself. Pat Anderson had a goal and Fleuty had another 17 save shutout. The Kings lost back to back games against Team Philadelphia 6-1, and 4-3. In the 4-3 loss, Connor Bradly scored 2 goals and Anderson had the other, but the Kings lost in overtime 4-3. Anderson led the scoring with 4G 2A, followed by Rafter 4G 1A, Bradly 2G 3A, Baran and Martin had 2G 2A.

16U A American

The Kings came in 2nd place with a record of 2-1-2. Andrew Michalowski had two goals and Mike Stine had the other in a 3-3 tie with St. James Hockey Club. Owen Brady had 21 saves. After being down 2-0 to the Queen City Royals, Landon Kamel, and William Fairbanks brought the Kings back and the game resulted in another tie, 2-2. Brady had a big game with 34 saves. The Kings got their first win of the tournament 2-1 over the Richmond Generals Selects. Kai Harper and Stine scored for the Kings and Brady made 33 saves. They followed that up with a 4-3 win against the Haverford Hawks. Gavin Voight led the way with 2 goals, Ciaran Sweeney, Ryan Roth, added the others. Unfortunately, the Kings lost the rematch with Royals 4-0.
