Exton Kings Squirt B American 2016-2017 Finishes 2nd in DVHL Playoffs
Finishing their DVHL regular season after winning 11 of their last 12 games, The Kings Squirt B American Team was sitting atop the DVHL with a record of 13-3. They were awaiting the final game of the season for the Chester County Skate Club (CCSC) who would also finish at 13-3. Despite owning all the tiebreakers against CCSC, the Kings would have to rely on a coin flip to decide the seeding for the playoffs. The Kings waited until the day before the playoffs to learn that they lost the coin flip and would face their biggest rival, The Grundy Grizzlies "Blue" Team in the DVHL Playoffs. CCSC would face the Quakers.
The Kings and Grizzlies split their regular season games so everyone knew what they were in for. It was going to be a war! The Grizzlies scored first but the Kings answered and after two heated periods of great hockey the score was tied 1-1. The 3rd period would be a different story as it belonged to the Kings. The will to win took over and they gutted out three consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead, a lead that they would not surrender. The Kings knocked off the Grizzlies by a final score of 5-2 and were now on their way to the championship to face CCSC who had beaten the Quakers earlier that day.
The Kings and CCSC also split their regular season games with both teams winning by a score of 4-2 on the other teams home ice. Once again everyone knew it was going to be a battle and it was. The game started as a defensive struggle and at the end of the 1st period the score was tied 0-0. The 2nd period started with the Kings scoring right off the opening faceoff to take a 1-0. Unfortunately that would be the only goal they would score. The Olympic sized ice took its toll on the Kings and they would eventually fall by a final score of 3-1. Although they fell just short, the Squirt B American Team can all hold their heads up high for a very successful season. They have a lot to be proud of. Great Job Kings!
